The Finest Lager

Harp television advertisement 'Beach' from 'The Finest Lager' campaign in which a man abandons his friend at the beach in order to take a woman to the pub for a Harp lager. Colour advert opens with two women playing swingball on a beach. Two men walk past and pick a place to sit on the beach as a song begins to describe the events of a happy day. One of the men watches closely as a woman emerges from the sea. His friend goes to buy ice cream from a stall, and when he returns the first man has disappeared. The friend searches the town while carrying two ice cream cones, eventually finding him with the swimmer in a pub, a tankard and a glass of Harp on the bar. The first goes to pick up his tankard but the friend quickly shoves the melting ice cream into his hand and takes the tankard himself. Zoom out to reveal two men pitching a tent. One man looks across the river to see two women struggling to pitch their tent as a song begins to describe the events of a happy day. The second man finishes up and gestures that they should go, and the first man complies reluctantly. The two men drink from tankards in a pub and chat with the barman. They notice the two women campers arrive and order goblets of Harp the bar. Interspersed shots shot the two men and two women chatting at the bar and a bull knocking down the men’s tent. The bull’s roar is heard in the pub, where one of the men in close-up turns to listen while watched by one of the women, with caption ‘Harp – the finest lager’. Behind her, a man turns the corner and walks along the street cheerfully saying hello to people, as a song begins to describe the events of a happy day. As a woman walks past the man, he turns to look at her, narrowly missing the awning of a shop as it is raised. The man joins friends in a club and drinks from a tankard of Harp. He exchanges smiles with a woman on the other side of the room. The singer of the song is shown playing in the club, and the man and woman dance together.
