Guinness television advert entitled 'Better & Better' depicting different-sized bottles and packs of take-home Guinness. Advert opens with a close-up of a bottle poured into a Guinness goblet, as voice-oever begins ‘Ah, now there’s something we all know – the bottle of Guinness. There’s nothing like it.’ As the bottle is emptied into the goblet and placed on the counter next to it the v/o adds ‘…except of course the pint bottle.’ Zoom out to reveal a larger Guinness bottle in foreground. The advertisement opens with a flyer for the Guinness Big G Competition, as a voiceover explains that there is over £1000 worth of G-Plan furniture to be won, including a dining room suite shown on screen. The voiceover continues that entry forms can be found with bottle six-packs and can four-packs of Guinness, specifying Northern Ireland residents only may apply and the closing date is in 1974. Guinness television advert entitled 'Cucumber', depicting consumers enjoying take-home bottles of Guinness in a variety of settings. Advert opens with a six-pack of Guinness bottles opening, revealing a suburban house at night with partygoers seen in cameo through the windows. Over upbeat music, a voiceover begins ‘You can open up a party with Guinness…’ A pixilated goblet of Guinness sits between the paddles of an electronic table-tennis game and reduces in content as the game progresses. In illuminated outline, a six-pack sits on top of a television set, dissolving to the animated six-pack. This again opens, to reveal the galloping feet and jockey of a horse race in close-up. The six-pack opens again to reveal a picnic with rain falling on it; a six-pack is placed alongside the food and the clouds suddenly give way to sunshine. The six-pack opens again to reveal a suitcase followed by a flying aircraft with a shamrock logo. Holidaymakers lie on a beach and pose for photographs, which are then seen in a photo album. The advertisement opens with a hoops board and a dart board in a pub, before finding two men engaging in an arm-wrestle by the bar, as a voiceover begins: ‘Searching for a drink with a special bite? You may find it a bit like a game.’ As they struggle, a pint of Guinness is poured. The game ends and the losing hand grabs a waiting pint. Guinness television advert entitled Glass Temperature' from Double Exxtra Good campaign. A Northern Ireland accent voiceover begins ‘In Northern Ireland today the weather was warm in parts…’, over a close-up of a full tankard of Guinness on a table. The forecast continues, mentioning various towns in the region, as the pint begins to empty and the shot pans down. By the time the glass has completely emptied the v/o says that at certain licensed premises ‘the temperature was deliciously cool’. An empty pub counter, as an empty tankard is put down by a hand. Caption: ‘Cool Guinness – double extra good’. The ad uses identical footage to the JWT ad ‘Glass Temperature’ GPR/MK08.01/0045.06 but with an alternative voice-over and adding a caption at the end. The “double extra good” tagline indicates that the original British ad may have been altered by Arks for the Northern Ireland market. Agency: ARKS

Guinness television advert entitled 'Stage' from Double Exxtra Good campaign. The advertisement opens with a group of men carrying kit-bags and a trophy from a bus. They triumphantly run into their club house and are disappointed to find it empty and the bar shuttered. A moment later a curtain at one end of the room pulls back to reveal a large crowd of well-wishers on stage welcoming the team, as a jingle begins. The entire crowd are seen drinking glasses of Guinness and celebrating the win. The advert concludes with one of the team drinking as a caption and the jingle both state: ‘Double exxtra good’. A jingle begins: ‘Out for the night, with people you like, Guinness makes it extra. In close-up, the key turns in the lock and the door slowly opens, revealing a real goblet of Guinness inside. A voiceover begins, ‘When we make Guinness we use an entirely natural process…’ Zoom in to extreme close-up of the Guinness glass. Dissolve to ears of barley in a field with a harvester in background. Branches of hops being harvested by hand. A steel cylinder with the words ‘Guinness Yeast’ inside a small wooden display box. A stream flowing through a mountainous path. Dissolve back to the Guinness goblet and zoom out. The voiceover adds that the final ingredient of Guinness is a touch of magic.
